NNZA: Achieving Net-Zero Carbon Emissions And A Circular Economy In Agriculture: Biowaste Utilization For Energy And Fertiliser At The Wallington Estate.

Project Lead: Professor Yaodong Wang.

Institution: Durham University.

Partners: NATIONAL TRUST (ENTERPRISES) LIMITED (THE).

Amount: £ 29K

Scheme: Ideas Translation.

Theme/Area: Integration into End Use Sectors/ Net Zero/Circular Economy Transition (e.g. products, supply chain, end-users).

Brief Description: This proof-of-concept tests farming residues to help the National Trust achieve net zero emissions. Using Anaerobic Digestion (AD) for biomethane meets energy needs for power, heating, cooling, and vehicle fuel. Evaluating biofertilizer quality versus chemical alternatives shows the circular economy’s benefits, aiding agriculture’s path to net zero. The project measures energy systems’ impact on the National Trust, influencing policy and investments.
