NNZA: Flipping Underwater Glider for Acoustic Monitoring in Offshore Energy Farms.

Project Lead: Dr Weichao Shi

Institution: Newcastle University.

Partners: OS Energy Ltd.

Amount: £ 30k

Scheme: Ideas Translation.

Theme/Area: Low Carbon Energy Generation/Onshore/Offshore Wind and Subsea.

Brief Description: Developing a hydrodynamically efficient hull for our ECHO glider, designed for marine passive acoustic monitoring near offshore renewable systems in 20-200m depths. The glider will feature high-speed cruising and underwater flipping to navigate strong currents around offshore farms. It will support environmental assessments and continuous monitoring, expediting consenting processes and improving operational efficiency for offshore renewables.
