NNZA: Fostering Partnerships Consortium Designing a Carbon Capture Function into Infrastructure Projects DaCC-FiP.

Project Lead: Professor David Manning.

Institution: Newcastle University.

Partners: ARUP GROUP LIMITED, University of Newcastle.

Amount: £ 64k

Scheme: Fostering Partnerships.

Theme/Area: Integration into End Use Sectors/Industrial Decarbonisation.

Brief Description: DaCC-FiP will support the adoption of carbon dioxide removal as an ecosystem service delivered through the design of engineered soils for infrastructure landscaping, with the potential to generate up to £3 million in carbon credit revenue in England over a 100-year asset lifespan. The project will establish a demonstrator facility and engage the construction sector to demonstrate the combined delivery of carbon removal and biodiversity net gain. Assessment methods for carbon removal, developed for agricultural enhanced rock weathering, will be adapted for the built environment. The NETH region will position itself as a national leader in revenue-generating carbon removal within commercial developments.
