Brief Description: This collaborative project between the University, EBAC, and housing associations enhances a loft-mounted dehumidifier with intelligent controls to tackle damp and condensation in social housing. HUMICARE uses real-time environmental and occupancy data to dynamically adjust extraction rates, improving air quality and energy efficiency. Key activities include AI algorithm development, sensor integration, hardware upgrades, and pilot deployment in representative homes. The project strengthens academic–industry collaboration, supports local clean-tech supply chains, and advances the region’s retrofit and net-zero capabilities. By addressing one of the UK’s most costly housing challenges, HUMICARE contributes to improved public health, housing quality, and economic growth in the North East, Teesside and Humber (NETH) region.
