NNZA: Sustainable Redesign of Industrial Air/Oil Separation Filters: A Life Cycle-Informed Proof of Concept for Emissions Reduction and Circular Innovation.

Project Lead: Dr Foad Faraji

Institution: Teesside University.

Partners: PSI Global.

Amount: £ 54k

Scheme: Commercialising Innovation.

Theme/Area: Integration into End Use Sectors/Net Zero/Circular Economy Transition (eg. products, supply chain, end-users).

Brief Description: This project will commercialise sustainable, low-carbon air/oil separation filters by applying Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) insights to material innovation, prototyping, and emissions quantification. While previous work optimised filter performance using advanced modelling, this initiative focuses on redesigning products with bio-resins, recycled steel, and low-carbon polymers. Prototypes will be manufactured and tested to validate durability, functionality, and environmental performance. Outcomes include scalable low-carbon products, measurable emissions reductions, and alignment with net-zero targets. Clear intellectual property pathways will support commercial exploitation, delivering industrial, environmental, and regional benefits while positioning PSI Global as a leader in circular product innovation.
