NNZA: Taking Beamish to net zero and beyond – journey to carbon positive with nature-based solutions.

Project Lead: Professor Fred Worrall

Institution: Durham University.

Partners: Beamish Museum.

Amount: £ 29k

Scheme: Ideas Translation.

Theme/Area: Integration into End Use Sectors/Net Zero/Circular Economy Transition (eg. products, supply chain, end-users).

Brief Description: Beamish is a major attraction in the North East and has recently been named UK Museum of the Year. Therefore, this project’s aim is for Durham academics to measure the baseline, develop a plan for Beamish to progress from net-zero to carbon-positive through the application of nature-based solutions, and serve as an example to the region. Given the scale of the estate there is the opportunity to meet sustainability targets through nature-based solutions (NBS) while enhancing the visitor experience.
